My First Square Face Work

I still remember the first time I opened the Square Face Generator. It was a rainy afternoon and I was looking for something creative to do — no Photoshop, no drawing skills required. Just a simple tool to make something fun.

The Discovery

A friend shared a link in our group chat: "Check this out, you can make pixel faces!" I clicked it, expecting something basic. What I found was a surprisingly deep creative tool wrapped in a nostalgic, pixel-art interface.

My First Attempt

I started by hitting the Random button a few times. The faces that appeared were charming — simple geometric shapes arranged into surprisingly expressive characters. But I wanted to make something that felt like me.

So I switched to manual mode and started exploring:

  • I picked warm yellow as my base color (it felt sunny and optimistic)
  • Added round eyes with a slight upward tilt (friendly but a little mischievous)
  • Chose a simple smile — nothing too dramatic
  • Added a small hat for personality

The result wasn't perfect, but it was mine. And that's what made it special.

What I Learned

  1. Start simple. Don't try to use every feature at once.
  2. The Random button is your friend. Use it for inspiration, then customize.
  3. Small adjustments matter. Moving an eye by one pixel can change the whole mood.
  4. Save often. You never know which version will be your favorite.

Where I Use It

My square face avatar now appears on my Discord profile, my GitHub account, and even my work Slack. People always ask, "Where did you get that cute avatar?" and I happily share the link.

If you haven't tried making your own square face yet, give it a shot. You might surprise yourself with what you create.
